Atlassian fixes critical arbitrary file access flaw across Data Center platforms

What happened.Atlassian issued security updates across its self-hosted Data Center and Server products. The release resolves an unauthenticated arbitrary file read vulnerability affecting web resource modules.
Why it matters.Attackers knowing common installation paths can extract database credentials and private configuration secrets from exposed instances. Teams running self-hosted Jira or Confluence should upgrade to their release line's fixed version or remove servers from the public internet.
The technical specifications:
- Vulnerability: Path traversal in web resource handlers lets remote unauthenticated attackers read files from application directories if they know the exact file path.
- Coverage: The flaw affects on-premises Confluence, Jira, Bitbucket, and Bamboo deployments, while Atlassian Cloud instances are already protected.
- Mitigation: Organizations that cannot patch immediately should place vulnerable servers behind reverse proxies configured with strict URL filtering rules.
