Anthropic and OpenAI donate Agent Skills and Open Responses to Linux Foundation AAIF

What happened.Anthropic donated the open Agent Skills specification and OpenAI contributed Open Responses to the Linux Foundation's Agentic AI Foundation during AGNTCon North America. The contributions expand the foundation to ten hosted open-source artificial intelligence projects.
Why it matters.Tooling for autonomous agents was splintering across incompatible runtime formats and closed provider interfaces. Donating core schemas to a neutral foundation gives engineering teams an open baseline that prevents vendor lock-in.
The technical specifications:
- Standardized schemas: Agent Skills provides a folder specification centered on a SKILL markdown file. It supplies coding agents with dynamic procedural memory across Claude Code, Cursor, and Visual Studio Code.
- Provider abstraction: Open Responses offers an application programming interface schema modeled on OpenAI Responses. It unifies agent requests, tool calling, and streaming events across diverse model providers.
- Vendor neutrality: Anthropic transferred the trademark, repository, and domain to the Linux Foundation. Hugging Face also added the OpenEnv evaluation suite, while Alibaba contributed OpenSandbox.
